Enrico Garbin studied at the Istituto Universitario di Architettura in Venice and at the Aalto University School of Art Design and Architecture in Helsinki. He graduated in architecture in 1995 under the supervision of Prof. Markku Komonen and Prof. Arrigo Rudi with a project for a sacred building on the Hietaniemi Island in Helsinki.
From 1995 to 2000 he worked in several architectural offices in Finland, Germany and the Netherlands: with Sanaksenaho Architects he designed the Ecumenical Art Chapel in Turku, Finland, which was awarded the Barbara Cappochin Architecture Prize in 2007; with Schroeder Schulte-Ladbeck Strottman the Konzerthaus in Dortmund, Germany; with VMX architects the Stedelijk Gymnasium in Den Bosch, the Netherlands; with Hansen und Petersen architekten the Plus Endoprothetik industrial building in Marl, Germany.
In 1999, following the design competition for the new Istituto Universitario di Architettura in Venice in which he was among the finalists, he founded his own architectural office in Venice. In 2001 he moved to Vicenza and in 2006 to Valdagno.
In 2006 the Shoreline residential towers project in Kemi, Finland, received the second prize in the Europan 8_European Urbanity competition and was awarded in the Finlandia Hall in Helsinki.
The office Enrico Garbin _ 2 architetti has a strong international orientation with projects in Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Finland, Denmark, Sweden, Iceland, Japan, Egypt, UAE, and Ecuador. Projects vary in size and typology, ranging from urban planning to social housing and homes for the elderly, commercial buildings and offices, schools and gyms, museums and cultural centers, hotels and spas, swimming pools, auditoriums and convention centers, plazas and parks, furniture design and art installations.
More than 15 buildings have been realized, including the Belvedere on the 31st floor of the Pirelli Skyscraper in Milan (exhibited in 2010 at the Shanghai Expo), 102 Social Housing apartments and the Living pavilion in the Sustainable Suburb in Milan Figino, the sustainable urban development in the Cesalpinia area in Bergamo, the Auditorium for the Hospital Papa Giovanni XXIII in Bergamo, the silo parking for the Pirelli Skyscraper in Milan, the office building for Roundgroup in Vicenza, the Galante house in Valdagno.
Currently under construction is a project for a School Center with elementary school, pre-school, kindergarden, police station and immigration office in Lugano Viganello, Switzerland.
Enrico Garbin was appointed cultore della materia in Architecture at the Istituto Universitario di Architettura in Venice in 2001. He has been teaching architecture and urban planning at the same university in the years 2001-2003 and has been visiting professor at the Bochum University of Applied Sciences in Germany from 2018 to 2020.
From 2009 to 2013 he was a member of the competitions commission of the Architects Board of Vicenza and in 2014 he was a member of the AVA scientific committee, Agenzia Vicentina per l'Architettura.
He is currently a member of OTIA - Association of Engineers and Architects of Ticino - in Switzerland since 2020, and a member of AKBW - Association of Architects of Baden-Württenberg - in Germany since 2022.
His competition project for the new Istituto Universitario di Architettura in Venice is permanently part of the IUAV Project Archive.
